Keep Cama Beach State Park Open
The Washington State Parks Commission will be meeting in Stanwood July 15th at the Stanwood High School
Topics include the Cama Beach State Park
Cama Beach State Park is one of the most visited, popular and locally supported State Parks in Washington State! Recent storm damages and other problems have compelled the Parks Commission and administrative staff to close the park indefinitely. Many local volunteers who have committed countless hours from before the park was purchased through last year providing the lion’s share of programming support and volunteer hours think this is perhaps premature. It is important to note that the park is a featured destination for the Stanwood Camano Historic Sites Tour on August 24th from 10 am – 3 pm including bus tours. Details will be announced about this soon on the tour website.
It is possible that some fixes that were planned can be completed and the park can continue to be the most popular park in Washington State for perhaps 10 years at least.
Since 1994 the Stanwood Area Historical Society was a major supporter in the long process of acquiring and developing the State Park. Please note what was written in the SAHS newsletter in 1994 when the Risk/Worthington Families began their work to transfer their resort property to a public park. Its current volunteers and visitors have had a huge role in the preserving, rehabilitating and maintaining this important cultural, historical and recreation institution in our community. We urge the Commissioners to mitigate problems as long as possible to preserve this resource for public access as long as possible. The Park volunteers and dedicated staff would and could be a significant contributor to the repairs and projects needed to keep the park alive for as long as possible!
